Aaron Easton Featured in FOX23 on Oklahoma Compassionate Release Lawsuit

Attorney Aaron Easton was featured in a FOX23 News report covering a lawsuit filed against the Oklahoma Department of Corrections over its handling of medical parole and compassionate release.

In the story, Easton described the condition of his client, James Havens, a 73-year-old inmate with terminal illness who is bedridden and unable to care for himself. Easton stated that Havens meets the criteria under Oklahoma’s compassionate release law but has not been granted a parole hearing.

Easton also emphasized that both the facility warden and the Department of Corrections’ chief medical officer approved Havens for medical parole, yet the case has not been advanced to the Pardon and Parole Board.

The lawsuit argues that the state is failing to follow Oklahoma law by not allowing eligible inmates to receive a medical parole hearing. Easton further noted the financial impact on taxpayers, stating that the cost of Havens’ medical care has already exceeded $1 million, while his family is willing to assume future care expenses.

Easton is representing Havens alongside co-counsel Christopher Garinger as the case continues through the courts.
